Skin cancers
Skin cancer refers to malignant tumors that start from cells located within the skin. In the early stage, they usually form in the outer layer of the skin, the epidermis.
The type of skin cancer depends on the type of cells that it developed from. The incidence of skin cancers is increasing in all age groups: the number of new cases has multiplied over the last decades. Increased sunbathing and use of tanning beds is believed to be the main reason for this. Skin cancers behave in different ways, depending on the type of cancer. What is common to them is that early detection of malignant changes is essentially important. Skin cancers are diagnosed by visual inspection and skin biopsy. It is very important to regularly monitor the skin of a patient who has been diagnosed with any skin cancer.
The most common types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. These three account for approximately 99% of all cases of skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of malignant skin cancer, while melanoma can be said to be the most dangerous type.
